Guinness might the traditional answer but when the bacon is celebrated northern Ireland butcher Peter Hannan’s amazing French trimmed dry cured bacon rack, glazed and cooked on the barbecue and served with an outrageously creamy parsley sauce then something a little more extravagant is called for.

In the end I didn’t get to the island of Janitzio, first pic, one of the most sought after destinations for Day of the Dead, because the crowds are just crazy these days but we went to one of the smaller island on Lake Patzcuaro, Yunuen where we saw these fisherman doing a traditional rhythmic dance with outsize fishing nets.
